Associations

Association for the prevention and relief of heart disease has decided to close temporarily its executive office in view of the fact that the physicians of the executive committee, with one exception, and the executive secretary are absent from the city and in the service of the government in the Medical officers reserve corps or in the Red cross. Investigations and educational propaganda will not be undertaken during the war. Tasmania-Bill providing for the creation of hospital districts, with corporate board in each charged with the maintenance and management of general hospitals and others receiving state aid. Power is given to chief health officer to inspect both public and private hospitals, and to advise government on all matters relating to hospital administration. Patients are made liable to contribute for treatment according to their means. Local authorities may be compelled to provide and maintain hospitals, and subsidized hospitals may be required to make reasonable arrangements with local authorities for reception of persons suffering from infectious diseases.
