finally lose not the things eternal: grant this, O heavenly Father, for Jesus Christ's sake our Lord. Amen.

O God, who hast prepared for them that love thee such good things as pass man's understanding; pour into my heart such love toward thee, that I, loving thee above all things, may obtain thy promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord of all power and might, who art the Author and Giver of all good things, graft in my heart the love of thy name, increase in me true religion, nourish me with all goodness, and of thy great mercy keep me in the same; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let thy peace, O God, which passeth all understanding, keep my heart and mind in the knowledge and love of thee, and of thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. And may the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be with me, and remain with me, now and for ever. Amen.

EVENING PRAYER FOR A PERSON IN

PRIVATE.

OUR Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done in earth as it is in heaven: give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: for thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Almighty and most merciful Father; I have erred and strayed from thy ways like lost sheep I have followed too much the devices and desires of my own heart: I have offended against thy holy laws: I have left undone those things which I ought to have done; and I have done those things which I ought not to have done; and there is no health in me. But thou, O God, have mercy upon me, a miserable offender. Spare thou them, O God, which confess their faults: restore thou them that are penitent; according to thy promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesu our Lord: and

grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that I may hereafter live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of thy holy name. Amen.

Almighty God, Father of all mercies, I thine unworthy servant do give. thee most humble and hearty thanks for all thy goodness and loving kindness to me and to all men. I bless thee for my creation, preservation, and all the blessings of this life; but above all, for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ; for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory. And I beseech thee, give me that due sense of all thy mercies, that my heart may be unfeignedly thankful; and that I may show forth thy praise, not only with my lips, but in my life, by giving up myself to thy service, and by walking before thee in holiness and righteousness all my days, through Jesus Christ our Lord; to whom with thee and the Holy Ghost be all honour and glory, world without end. Amen.

O God, merciful Father, that despisest not the sighing of a contrite heart, nor the desire

my

of such as be sorrowful; mercifully assist prayers that I make before thee in all my troubles and adversities, whensoever they oppress me; and graciously hear me, that those evils which the craft and subtilty of the devil or man worketh against me be brought to nought, and by the providence of thy goodness they may be dispersed; that I thy servant, being hurt by no persecutions, may evermore give thanks unto thee in thy holy church, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Assist me mercifully, O Lord, in these my supplications and prayers, and dispose the way of thy servant towards the attainment of everlasting salvation; that among all the changes and chances of this mortal life, I may ever be defended by thy most gracious and ready help, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, our heavenly Father, who of thy great mercy hath promised forgiveness of sins to all them which with hearty repentance and true faith turn unto thee, have mercy upon me; pardon and deliver me from all my sins; confirm and strengthen me in all goodness, and

bring me to everlasting life, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Let thy peace, O God, which passeth all understanding, keep my heart and mind in the knowledge and love of Thee, and of thy Son, Jesus Christ our Lord: and may the blessing of God Almighty, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost, be with me, and remain with me now and for ever. Amen.

A THANKSGIVING AFTER RECOVERY FROM SICKNESS.

BY BISHOP GIBSON.

Most gracious and merciful God, to whom alone belong the issues of life and death; I, thy unworthy servant, who have been under thy afflicting hand, and am raised again from the bed of sickness, do here present myself before Thee, in a thankful sense of thy great mercy and goodness towards me. Thou hast chastened and corrected me, but thou hast not given me over unto death. Thou hast saved my life from destruction, and crowned me with
