K. Natwar Singh was born in 1931. He was educated at Mayo College, Ajmer; Scindia School, Gwalior; St. Stephen’s College Delhi; and Corpus Christi College, Cambridge. He joined the I.F.S. in 1953 and served in Beijing, New York, Warsaw, London and Lusaka. He was the ambassador to Pakistan between 1980 and 1982, the secretary general of the 7th Non-Aligned Summit in 1983, a member of the 8th and 12th Lok Sabha, Union Minister (1984-49) and a member of the Rajya Sabha. He has also been part of the Congress Working Committee, vice-chairman of the Indira Gandhi Memorial Fund, president of the All India Lawn Tennis Association (1988-92) and president of the Delhi Gymkhana Club (1984-85). He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 1984.
