Commencing Volume Five

The last issue of the "Notes"-June 26th - completed Volume Four and with this issue we start upon Volume Five. It is our hope this year to get in still closer touch with the various city. departments and render them enhanced service. Please write us your suggestions and send in all material that may prove of interest.

The Death of John Purroy Mitchel

The tragic death of John Purroy Mitchel, former mayor of New York City, shocked the executives and employees of the city government, and by action and verbal tribute they paid their last respects to the former leader who gave his life for his country.

On the morning of July 6th word was sent out from the Mayor's office to all city departments. Extras were soon being cried about the streets, containing a message of appreciation and sympathy from Mayor Hylan. The Board of Aldermen met early in the afternoon and passed a resolution in which they said: "John Purroy Mitchel has passed away, but his memory will live on forever, an inspiration and example to the youth of America."
