Q. Doth be write to any of the faints, as having put off the old, and put on the new man? A. For as many of you as have been baptized into Chrift, have put on Christ.

Seeing that ye have put off the old man 9, 10. with his deeds, and have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him.

Q. What Speaketh Chrift himself of the neceffity of this new birth?

John A. Jefus answered and faid unto him, Verily, verily, I fay unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

Q. Of what feed cometh this birth?

A. Being born again, not of corruptible feed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

Q. What doth the apostle Paul witness of bimfelf concerning this new life?

A. I am crucified with Christ, neverthe2.20. lefs I live; yet not I, but Chrift liveth in me. Q. What is the preaching of the cross of Chrift?

A. For the preaching of the cross is to 1 Cor. them that perish, foolishness; but unto us that are faved, it is the power of God.

A. But God forbid that I should glory, Gal. 6. fave in the cross of our Lord Jefus Chrift, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world: for in Jesus Christ neither circumcifion availeth any thing, nor uncircumcifion, but a new creature.

Q. What speaketh Chrift of the unity of the faints with him?

A. At that day ye shall know that I am John in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. Abide in me, and I in you. As the John 15. branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except 45. it abide in the vine, no more can ye, except ye abide in me. I am the vine, ye are branches; he that abideth in me, and I in him, the fame bringeth forth much fruit; for without me, ye can do nothing.

have given them, that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that thou haft fent me; and haft loved them as thou haft loved me.

Q. What faith the apostle Paul to this purpose ?

A. For both he that fanctifies, and they that are fanctified, are all of one; for which cause he is not afhamed to call them brethren.

Q. What faith the apostle Peter?

A. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises, that by thefe ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having efcaped the corruption that is in the world through luft.

Concerning the Light wherewith JESUS CHRIST hath enlightened every Man; the Univerfality and Sufficiency of God's Grace, to all the World, made manifeft therein.

Quest. WHEREIN confifts the love of God towards fallen and loft man?

A. For God fo loved the world, that he

gave his only-begotten Son, that whofoever believeth in him should not perifh, but have everlasting life.

In this was manifefted the love of God John towards us, because that God fent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Q. What is intended here by the world? All and every man, or only a few?

A. But we fee Jefus, who was made a Heb. little lower than the angels for the fuffer-2.9. ing of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God fhould tafte death for every man.

Q. Methinks the apostle John is very plain there, in mentioning the whole world, which must be not only the faints, but all others, Seeing he diftinguisheth the world from himself, and all the faints to whom he then wrote: What faith Paul elsewhere in this matter?

A. Chrift in you, the hope of glory, Col. r. whom we preach, warning every man, and 27, 28. teaching every man in all wifdom, that we may prefent every man perfect in Christ Jefus.

plications, prayers, interceffions, and giving of thanks be made for all men: for this is good and acceptable in the fight of God our Saviour, who will have all men to be faved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be teftified in due time.

Q.

What is the apostle Peter's teftimony in this ?

A. The Lord is not flack concerning his promife (as fome men count flacknefs) but is long-fuffering to us-ward, not willing that any fhould perifh, but that all fhould come to repentance.

Q. Are there any more fcripture paffages that prove this thing?

A. Say unto them, As I live, faith the Lord God, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way and live.

The Lord is gracious and full of compaffion; flow to anger, and of great mercy.. The Lord is good to all, and his tender mercies are over all his works.

To wit, that God was in Chrift, reconciling the world unto himself.

Q. Seeing then by thefe fcriptures it appears that the love of God is held out to all, that all might have been, or may be faved by Chrift; what is to be judged of those who affert, that God nor Chrift never purposed
